COURSES FOR OFFICIALS
MANLY WARRINGAH BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION
MANLY WARRINGAH BASKETBALL IS COMMITTED TO THE ONGOING DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT OF MANLY OFFICIALS AT ALL LEVELS – FROM GRASS ROOTS TO ELITE.
A variety of course are available to assist with education and development of officials.
ASSOCIATION REFEREE COMMUNITY COURSE | This is an entry level accreditation for most referees. Teaches the basics of refereeing the game – fouls, violations, administration, and mechanics (where to run on the court). After completing this level, referees are accompanied on the court by an accredited official to help them get used to the practical side of the game. Click here for more information.
ASSOCIATION REFEREE DEVELOPMENT COURSE | The Development course provides more instruction on refereeing the game. The course is broad and touches upon all the major elements involved in refereeing at association levels of competition. Click here for more information.
ASSOCIATION REFEREE INTERMEDIATE COURSE | After gaining experience as a Development referee, this course introduces referees to the skills needed to officiate high-age junior competitions, senior competitions and junior representative (such as Under 14). Click here for more information.
ASSOCIATION REFEREE ADVANCED COURSE | The Advanced course builds on the knowledge acquired in the Development and Intermediate levels, and prepares referees for officiating Under 16 & Under 18 representative basketball and higher level senior local competitions. Junior referees should be aged at least 15 before attending this course and should be competent at all junior age groups prior to attending. Click here for more information.
From this point, Basketball NSW provide courses to advance officials. Visit BNSW website.
REFEREE COACHES, STATS & SCORETABLE COURSES
REFEREE COACH COURSES |This course is ideal for people who are interested in becoming a Referee Coach and mentoring beginner/less experienced referees. Before applying it is recommended that applicants contact MWBA Officials Manager prior to the commencement of the course, to obtain an understanding of referee coaching and/or mentoring.
SCORETABLE COURSES | To become a scoretable official, you must successfully complete course and exam. Officials are also evaluated in each of the scoretable roles during a game. When the official has been successfully evaluated in each role twice, they can nominate to qualify for Level 2 accreditation.
STATISTICS COURSES | To become a statistician, you must be 16 years or older and have a basic knowledge of basketball. Some experience with computers is also an advantage.
